Well, I finally took the plunge and entered the brave new world of MP3s, iPods, and downloadable music. Used to a music collection that consists of actual physical objects (record albums, cassette tapes, and CDs) the idea that I could hold an enormous collection of music in the palm of my hand and take it all with me wherever I went was more than a bit bizarre. However, weariness at searching for a particular CD through 6 CD cases was more than enough to prompt me to join the revolution!
I have noticed one downside to the iPod, though. It seems that a simple alphabetical listing of albums/artists/songs doesn't spark the memory/imagination nearly as powerfully as does the act of viewing page after page of actual CDs. Before I'd find myself flipping through CD cases stumbling upon forgotten treaures; now it is almost as though I need to know exactly what I want to listen to when I begin scrolling.
MOST of my newest music will be here, but every know and then I will still purchase (with Gift certificates undoubtedly!) or be given an actual physical CD. So be sure to check out Recent Additions as well.
